The primary role of a Solution Designer is to:
- Take high-level corporate/marketing/business/technology requirements and develop the functional architecture of the solution
- Translate functional architecture into more detailed technical, functional, and operational design specifications
- Assess new applications and or design enhancements to existing IT systems ensuring compliance to technical design maintaining end-to-end operability of the IT systems
- Scope and provide time/cost estimation of all activities within the development life cycle
- Provide post implementation support of IT systems within the assigned systems portfolio
- Ensure that functional solutions are aligned to System Architecture mapped out by Solution Architects and overall IT Strategy
The responsibilities of a Solution Designer are to:
- Keep up to date with new technology and trends
- Evaluate business requirements and develop solution designs ensuring alignment to business requirements, business processes and best practices for effective software development
- Coordinate with other Solution Architects, Infrastructure Architects and Solution Designers to ensure end-to-end design coverage across the IT domains
- Develop requirements traceability matrix based on the business requirements showing that all requirements are either supported or explicitly rejected. In which case, such requirements will form part of the solution gap analysis
- Develop functional architecture and design specifications for proposed systems solutions
- Carry out Impacts Analysis of all designs effecting IT systems and interfaces
- Enforce design strategy specific to the assigned systems portfolio
- Conduct peer review of other solution designs
- Ensure that all designs developed and / or enhancements to existing IT system do not cause degradation to system OLAs
- Provide subject matter expertise in the assigned portfolio of IT systems
The responsibilities of a Solution Designer are to:
- Be commercially aware of customers’ needs in order to grow sustainable and profitable business
- Present, broker agreements and follow-up with business proposals in order to close profitable business deals with clients
- Liaise with clients and maintain relationship in order to improve customer relations and increase business development opportunities
- Plan, design, schedule and coordinate data warehouse analysis, design, development and deployment
- Design end user interface including reporting
- Develop best practices for data loading and extraction into and out of the data warehouse
